Designating February 13, 2002, as Children's Day at the Legislature
and recognizing that children's health and well-being are
extremely important and should be a central focus of this
Legislature.
Whereas, The foundation of a humane and just society is the
people's willingness to work together for the good of its children;
and
Whereas, The State of West Virginia has a population of 420,000
children; and
Whereas, Children and their welfare are important to the
betterment of the State of West Virginia as they are our greatest natural resource; and
Whereas, Children in the State of West Virginia are in need of
health care, family support, day care, shelter, food and clothing;
and
Whereas, It is the duty of all West Virginia citizens to search
out opportunities to make a difference in the lives of West
Virginia's children through assuring that all children in the State
have access to health care, family support, day care, shelter, food
and clothing; and
Whereas, The Coalition for West Virginia's Children is working
to promote the well-being of all children and will ensure that all
children are cared for and able to grow up to be productive
citizens; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That February 13, 2002, is hereby declared as Children's Day
at the Legislature; and, be it
Further Resolved, That addressing children's needs should be
a high priority of the West Virginia Legislature.
